Abstract

This study aims to compare internship experiences in the Logistics and Hospitality industries, focusing on job responsibilities, work environment, and acquired skills. The research method used in this final project is participatory observation conducted during an internship at PT Ritra Cargo Denpasar (logistics industry) and Swiss-Belhotel Rainforest (hospitality industry). The findings indicate that the internship experience in the logistics industry is more oriented toward administrative accuracy and operational efficiency, with primary tasks such as filling out shipping documents, labeling, and coordinating goods distribution. Meanwhile, the internship experience in the hospitality industry emphasizes communication skills and business administration, with tasks such as preparing business documents, managing sponsorship proposals, and coordinating with clients. In terms of the work environment, the logistics industry follows a more individual-based workflow with limited direct interaction with supervisors. In contrast, the hospitality industry is more dynamic, with supervisors actively guiding and assigning tasks to interns. Furthermore, the main challenge faced in the logistics industry internship is the limited learning opportunities due to the supervisors' busy schedules, whereas, in the hospitality industry, interns are expected to adapt quickly to high work expectations. Additionally, this study highlights how the operational systems in each industry influence the internship experience, particularly in terms of assigned tasks and support for learning. This research is expected to provide insights for students and job seekers regarding the differences in work environments between the two industries and assist in career decision-making based on individual preferences and skills.
