Abstract
Cold storage is used to store groceries for a long period. Politeknik Negeri Bali through the Department of Mechanical Engineering; Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanical Study Program are dedicated to develope it. However, this campus does not have a simulator for students’ practice. It is still limited to operation, observation, and data collection, further investigation on other cases might lead to great risk and enhances the possibility of the cold storage to damage. Students should practice applying and analyzing various cases in multistage type cold storage, therefore a simulator is necessary. Its design is a prototype of the real one used in the industry. The simulator used for practice can simulate the problems occurred in the operation of the storage system. The compressor piston used has small capacity of 1/10 hp by using R134a, condenser and evaporator. All of them were adjusted with the pressure of work with coil fins table model, while the determination of capillary pipe as inter cooler and impact refriged constellation was based on DanCap software with the COP 2.2. The existence of this simulator will make the multistage type cold storage practice more effective and efficient.
