Abstract

This study aims to examine personal financial literacy based on the personal characteristics of the commerce department students at Politeknik Negeri Bali class rank 2014 through 2016 who still active by June 2017. Financial literacy was measured using 27 multiple-choice questions and a score calculated based on the percentage of the correct answers. Financial literacy and then analyzed based on the characteristics of the respondents consisting of gender, age, majors, class rank, GPA, residence, the level of parental education, and parental income. Financial literacy is also grouped into relatively high and relatively low based on the median to analyze the financial behavior of respondents in each group. The data used are the primary data obtained from a survey of 96 respondents. Data analysis methods used by this research were descriptive statistics and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).The level of financial literacy was 52,00% were in the lower category. The test results revealed that there was influence of gender, age, GPA, and parent’s income. The results showed that students should improve their understanding of personal finance, especially in the area of investment, in addition sugested to the Bali State Polytecnic to provide education about personal finance to the students.
