Abstract
This study aims to analyze the implementation of credit management in minimizing non-performing loans (NPL) at the Village Credit Institution (LPD) of Desa Adat Peminge. As a microfinance institution, the LPD plays a strategic role in supporting the village economy through fund mobilization and credit distribution. However, problematic loans remain a major challenge that can threaten the institution’s financial stability. Therefore, this research focuses on how LPD Desa Adat Peminge applies credit management through the stages of planning, credit granting procedures, supervision, and problem loan resolution. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving LPD management, credit staff, supervisory bodies, and both performing and non-performing loan customers. The findings indicate that credit management at LPD Desa Adat Peminge has improved significantly in recent years. Credit planning is now more structured, with clear annual targets and debtor segmentation. The credit granting procedure is based on the 5C principles, supported by field surveys to assess debtors’ capacity and character. Supervision is conducted through administrative monitoring, regular field visits, and early warning systems, with active involvement from customary village leaders. Meanwhile, the resolution of non-performing loans is carried out through restructuring, persuasive approaches, and the use of customary mechanisms. The effectiveness of these strategies is reflected in a significant decrease in the NPL ratio, from 67.06% in 2021 to 5.16% in 2024. In conclusion, a more systematic, integrated, and locally rooted approach to credit management has proven effective in reducing problematic loans, maintaining financial stability, and strengthening public trust in the LPD.
