Abstract

This study aims to address an often-overlooked issue within the campus environment, particularly in the laboratory area of the Electrical Engineering department, by implementing a system for sorting metal and non-metal waste. In this research, an automated system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) was designed and implemented. The system includes real-time waste sorting and monitoring. The testing methodology involved the configuration of motors for the sorting process and the use of proximity sensors to monitor waste bin capacity. The results showed a high level of accuracy, with the waste sorting system achieving 100% accuracy for distinguishing between metal (80%) and non-metal materials (85%). The proximity sensors for monitoring bin capacity also functioned effectively and were able to send notifications to the system. Therefore, the implementation of this system is expected to contribute to solving the problem of waste separation in laboratory environments.
