Abstract

Environmental issues caused by unsustainable tourism practices have prompted the hospitality industry to adopt environmentally friendly strategies. Hilton Bali Resort, as a five-star international hotel, implements the Environmental Management System (EMS) to reduce environmental impacts, especially in the Front Office Department, which operates 24 hours a day. This study aims to examine the importance of employee awareness in supporting the implementation of EMS at the Front Office of Hilton Bali Resort. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method, supported by quantitative data, through interviews, observations, documentation, and questionnaires involving 29 front office staff members. The findings indicate that although EMS has been introduced, employee awareness levels vary across knowledge, understanding, attitude, and action. Practices such as using recycled paper, minimizing energy use, and reducing disposable items have been partially implemented but are not yet consistent. The study concludes that increasing awareness through continuous training, monitoring, and managerial support is crucial for effective EMS implementation. It is recommended that Hilton Bali Resort reinforce environmental education and integrate EMS indicators into performance evaluations to ensure behavioural change and sustainability alignment.
